Abstract:
【Objectives】This paper constructed and validated the tourist-environment interaction scale, and explored the effects of its dimensions on psychological recovery. 【Methods】The study was divided into two phases of qualitative and quantitative research. The qualitative analysis research objects included nature reserves, scenic spots, forest parks, geological parks, and wetland parks. The travelogue textual data was analyzed to identify the dimensions through the grounded theory. The tourists of Zhong Shan Mountain National Park were the research subjects, and a questionnaire survey and multivariate statistical analysis were used for items purification and validation. 【Results】This study established a measurement scale of tourist-environment interaction, which comprised four dimensions (sensory stimulation, situational evocation, behavioral connection, and reflection) and twelve scale items. The scale was found to have good reliability and validity. Sensory stimulation, situational evocation, and behavioral connection have significant positive effects on psychological recovery. 【Conclusions】This study clarified the interaction between tourists and natural environmental elements at the levels of sensory perception, cognition, behavior, and meaning. It could be beneficial for a comprehensive understanding of the essence of tourist-environment interaction. Additionally, the study integrated the dimensions of tourist-environment interaction that were scattered across various research topics. It supplemented these dimensions with research from environmental psychology and qualitative data, providing a reliable and intuitive measurement tool. Lastly, by considering tourists as active participants in the environment, the study confirmed the positive effect of tourist-environment interaction on psychological restoration.
