Abstract:
【Objectives】To identify priority protection areas (PPAs) and the protection gaps of marsh wetlands in Yunnan province and to provide scientific guidelines for the protection and management of marsh wetlands.【Methods】Taking peat marshes as the determination standard, the PPAs of marsh wetlands in Yunnan province were determined by hot spot analysis, and the protection gaps of PPAs were identified by ArcGIS.【Results】There were 1 491.84 hm
2 PPAs in Yunnan province which were mainly distributed in northwest, northeast, and southeast. Among them, there were 600.79 hm
2 in Diqing Prefecture, 225.06 hm
2 in Lijiang City, 114.14 hm
2 in Nujiang Prefecture, 308.58 hm
2 in Honghe Prefecture, and 138.00 hm
2 in Zhaotong City. There were 932.58 hm
2 of the PPAs covered by natural protected areas. There were still 559.26 hm
2 of protection gaps, mainly 225.06 hm
2 distributed in Lijiang City, 150.40 hm
2 in Diqing Prefecture, and 138.00 hm
2 in Zhaotong City. 【Conclusions】Suggestions were proposed including applying for national or provincial important wetlands in the vacant areas of wetland protection in Yongshan County, Yulong County, and Shangri-La City, expanding Yunnan Baima Snow Mountain National Nature Reserve.
