Abstract:
China ratified Ramsar convention in 1992 and became the 67
th Contracting Party. Since its accession to the convention, China has been fulfilled its international commitment. In particular in implementation of the three pillars of the convention obligations, e.g., wise use of all land with China and promulgation of national policy and legislations, designate Ramsar sites and maintain their ecological characters through development of comprehensive protected area systems, and active participate in international cooperations. During these processes, China has been greatly improved its capacity to implement Ramsar Convention by expansion of institutional networks, technical supporting arrangement, as well as formulation of wide society participation in wetland conservation and management. With the holding of Ramsar COP14, China will also become the Chair of the Standing Committee of Ramsar Convention for the next three year, and thus will play an even more important role to promote the development of the Convention. Meanwhile, to consolidate the achievement to strengthen wetland conservation and restoration, and develop a more effective conservation system that centered on Ramsar sites, for the realization of multiple ecosystem services, and thus contribute to the sustainable development.
